Book release of Junta Nacional da Cortiça (1936-1972)

Notícias

Euronatura launches the book Junta Nacional da Cortiça (1936-1972), on January 28th, at 7pm, at the bookstore Aletheia (Rua do Século, 13, Lisbon), with the presence of the author, the researcher Ignacio Garcia Pereda and the intervention of Dr. Dionisio Mendes (Mayor of Coruche) and Dra. Graça Filipe (Deputy Director of the Institute of Museum and Conservation).

The work is the result of the research project with the same name, conducted by the Promocork.com program, which aims to understand and divulge this flagship institution, having, in effect, scanned more than 10 years of the bulletins of the National Board of Cork and monthly publications which appeared the first time in 1938 (available at www.promocork.com).

At a time when the cork watches the birth of new institutions –  like the Observatório da Cortiça in Coruche or the Centro Nacional de Valorização do Montado ─, this institution, from the first half of the twentieth century, should be fairly recognized. So far it has not been paid sufficient attention to the content and impact of its functions, or to the areas of research and dissemination developed by his laboratory. It is this failure that the project seeks to fill, while contributing to a greater knowledge of the Portuguese Estado Novo.

With this publication Euronatura launches the second volume of its collection Forest History & Policy which seeks to improve knowledge in this area of contemporary Portuguese history.
